Recruiting notebook: Greenwood gets offer, Duwa hoping for the same
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Like so many boys who grew up in Iowa, Levi Duwa has hoped and dreamed of being an Iowa football player.
The Mid-Prairie defensive end might soon get his wish.
Duwa plans to attend Iowa’s final spring practice on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium, and he hopes to hear some good news in the form of a scholarship offer.
“It would mean a ton,” Duwa said. “Growing up not too far from Iowa City, my dream has always been to be a Hawkeye ever since I was little.
“To know my dreams could possibly come true is pretty cool.”
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Duwa was reluctant to say that he would commit to Iowa on the spot if offered Saturday. But he also said it it would be difficult not to commit.
“All I know is I have a pretty tough decision ahead of me,” Duwa said.
Duwa also has scholarship offers from Minnesota and Eastern Michigan.
Greenwood gets offer: Wide receiver Shamond Greenwood, a native of Garland, Texas, received a scholarship offer from Iowa on Tuesday. Greenwood now has nine offers and is the second player from Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland to be offered by Iowa.
Greenwood’s teammate, dual-threat quarterback Kamron Fields, got his first scholarship offer from Iowa in February and has Iowa as his current favorite.
Greenwood had been in contact with Iowa coaches previously, but the timing of the offer came as a surprise to him.
“I had previous encounters with Coach (Bobby) Kennedy,” Greenwood said. “I was expecting an offer earlier, but at this time it’s surprising.”
The 6-3, 203-pound Greenwood was a key receiving target for Fields last season. Greenwood compiled 821 yards and nine touchdowns on 59 receptions.
Greenwood also has offers from Kansas, Nevada, Mississippi State, Southern Methodist, San Diego State, New Mexico and Tulane.
