Juan Harris decommits from Iowa for third time
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team’s on-again-off-again relationship with defensive tackle Juan Harris is off again.
Harris announced on his private Twitter account on Wednesday that he has decommitted from Iowa, saying he wants to re-evaluate his options. It is believed to be at least the third time that he has backed out of his verbal commitment to the Hawkeyes.
Harris thanked the Iowa coaches on Twitter for being true and supportive over the past year. He also said that he would do no interviews.
The 6-foot-3, 367-pound Harris will be a senior at North Fayette High School in the fall. He had picked Iowa over multiple power five scholarship offers.
His decision now gives Iowa nine players in its 2017 recruiting class, including five from the state of Iowa.
NCAA rules prohibit college coaches from talking publicly about a specific recruit before the recruit has signed a a national letter of intent.
The national signing period for football is held each February, beginning on the first Wednesday of the month.
