Texas QB commits to Iowa
IOWA CITY, Iowa –
It took exactly three weeks after a scholarship offer from Iowa for Peyton Mansell to decide it was the place for him.
The Texas quarterback announced his commitment to Iowa on Monday via Twitter.

With the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Mansell now on board, Iowa has 10 players committed to its 2017 recruiting class for the second time. His announcement came just days after 2017 defensive tackle Juan Harris de-committed from Iowa for the third time.
Mansell’s commitment also shows the work being put forth by the Iowa coaches, and by Iowa running back recruit Eno Benjamin, in the state of Texas.
Benjamin, who is from Wylie, Texas, has been recruiting players from his home state since committing to Iowa in April.
He indicated on Twitter this past weekend that multiple players from Texas were on the verge of committing to Iowa.
Mansell picked Iowa over more than a dozen scholarship offers. But Iowa was the only power five school to make an offer, which came after Iowa coordinator Greg Davis watched Mansell throw at Mansell’s high school in Belton, Texas on May 30.
Mansell completed 140 of 241 passes for 1,712 yards and 20 touchdowns against three interceptions as a junior. He rushed 113 times for 789 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Scout and 247 rate Mansell as a three-star recruit with the latter also ranking him as the No. 47 quarterback nationally in the 2017 Class. Rivals sees him as a two-star recruit.
Iowa has had mostly good results with signing quarterbacks from Texas.
Nathan Chandler attended junior college in California before becoming the starting quarterback for Iowa’s 10-3 team in 2003, but he grew up in Texas.
Drew Tate also grew up in Texas before becoming an all-Big Ten quarterback at Iowa in 2004.
On the flipside, Texas native Nic Shimonek never appeared in a game for the Hawkeyes before transferring to Texas Tech in 2014.
