IOWA CITY, Iowa – First impressions are important in recruiting and the Iowa football team understands that.
Derrick Miller's first impression of the Iowa program was so positive that the high school junior now has Iowa among his top three schools after visiting Iowa City this past weekend.
"They are in my top three so far," Miller said. "(The other two) would probably be Iowa State and Western Michigan."
A three-star athlete from O'Fallon, Mo., Miller was particularly impressed by Iowa's fan support and by the atmosphere inside Kinnick Stadium. He attended Iowa's 45-16 victory over Illinois this past Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.
"The fan base and how excited they were to be there and how supportive everyone was of their team (was what really stood out to me)," Miller said.
The 5-foot-11, 160-pound Miller is being recruited as a cornerback and he said the Iowa coaches like his quickness and his mental toughness.
"They like my ability to break on the ball fast and recognize the play quickly," Miller said.
Miller, who also has a scholarship offer from Western Michigan, said he doesn't have a timetable for picking a school.
Iowa currenty has four players committed to its 2019 recruiting class.
