Don Patterson looks back at a big weekend for himself and for the Iowa football team
IOWA CITY, Iowa – This past weekend was special for Don Patterson and for the Iowa football team.
On Friday, Patterson was honored at FryFest as part of Hayden Fry's legendary 1983 coaching staff. All but two of the assistants from that staff attended the 10th annual FryFest event, including Bob Stoops, Dan McCarney, Carl Jackson and Bill Braisher.
The fun continued on Saturday as the Iowa football team overcame a slow start on offense to defeat Northern Illinois 33-7 in the season opener at Kinnick Stadium.
Patterson saw a lot good things with Iowa's performance, especially on defense, and some bad things.
He shared his observations and opinions during an interview that lasted for nearly 40 minutes. His take on Iowa's punting game was especially interesting because Patterson wasn't that imprssed even though Colten Rastetter averaged an impressive 53.8 yards on four punts.
Patterson will join us on Mondays throughout the football season for the third consecutive year as part of the AllHawkeyes podcast. The response from our listeners has been very positive and we think you'll really enjoy this season-opening podcast.
