IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team does not have a history of recruiting and signing dual-threat quarterbacks.

That may change with 2021 prospect Tyler Macon, who received a scholarship offer from Iowa on Friday.

“It feels great to get the offer,” Macon said. “Knowing someone is acknowledging my talent and is willing to take a shot on me is awesome.”

Despite Iowa’s penchant for producing pro-style quarterbacks, the 6-foot, 180-pound Macon believes that he can change that narrative.

“It says a lot (about their interest),” Macon said. “The fact that they’re taking a shot on a dual-threat is big and I think I can make a difference in their program and change the culture.

“I feel like my ability to run the ball as well as I pass the ball is just too much for defenses,” Macon said. “Iowa isn’t known for dual-threat quarterbacks like myself and I feel like it’ll be a great experience for the program with how diverse I am.”

Macon, a native of East St. Louis, Ill., has visited Iowa before and came away impressed with the passion of the coaching staff.

“I took a visit to Iowa a while back,” Macon said. “What stood out to me was the emotion and dedication they did everything with.”

During the visit, Macon got a good vibe from quarterbacks coach Ken O’Keefe.

“He’s a great guy,” Macon said. “He’s got a great personality and you can tell from the conversation we had that he cares for his players on and off the field.”

Macon also has an offer from Southern Mississippi.
