Solon receiver Jace Andregg hopeful for breakout season, Iowa offer
By Tyler Devine
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Solon High School pipeline has been good to the Iowa football team over the years.
2020 receiver Jace Andregg is hoping that he can be next in a group that includes current redshirt freshman center Tyler Linderbaum, former offensive lineman Dalton Ferguson, former kicker Marshall Koehn and former tight end Jacob Coons.
While Ferguson and Koehn were walk-ons, Andregg wants to be a scholarship player like Linderbaum and Coons.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Andregg believes this coming season will be a big step in getting more attention from Iowa and other schools.
“I’m pretty sure I’m pretty high on their list,” Andregg said. “I talked with coach Copeland the last time I was there when I was at their spring practice. We just sat down talked and he said I’m one of those guys that before they offer, basically they need to see a live evaluation. That’s either a workout on my own or at camp in the summer. And this next season, with not having much film at Prairie, just getting a lot of that this year which should go pretty well.”
Andregg recently made the move from Cedar Rapids Prairie to Solon, so he is no stranger to the Iowa program.
Andregg’s familiarity with and proximity to the Hawkeyes would make a scholarship offer that much more special.
“It would actually mean a lot just because growing up watching them all my life,” Andregg said. “It’s really close to Solon and everybody from around here obviously knows who they are. I feel like you get a lot of support there, too. It would just be really nice.”
Despite what an offer would mean to Andregg, he said that he still would like to take his time with the recruiting process.
“I feel like I’d take my time just because there’s a whole other season left,” Andregg said. “This will be my breakout season just because of the last couple years. But, yeah, I wouldn’t accept right away.”
Andregg already had sort of breakout at The Opening camp in St. Louis, Mo. in April, winning the Ratings Most Valuable Player Award after being clocked at 4.73 seconds in the 40-yard dash and recording a 41 inch vertical leap.
Andregg currently holds offers from North Dakota, Northern Iowa and South Dakota State.
Other schools have come calling recently as well.
“Right now, probably Iowa and Toledo and North Dakota State (are showing me the most interest),” Andregg said. “Air Force has talked to me a little. Other than that, there’s been a lot of coaches on Twitter, especially after the Opening, that started following me.”
Andregg said he plans to attend Iowa’s camp over the summer, as well as others.
