HF podcast: Don Patterson looks back at South Dakota State and ahead to Iowa State
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Don Patterson made his usual Monday appearance on the Hawk Fanatic radio show and podcast and there was plenty to discuss.
The former Iowa offensive coordinator and Western Illinois head coach looked back at Iowa’s 7-3 victory over South Dakota State in the season opener this past Saturday at Kinnick Stadium and ahead to this coming Saturday’s annual showdown with Iowa State, which will also be played at Kinnick Stadium.
The Iowa offense had major problems against South Dakota State, finishing with just 166 yards and zero touchdowns.
Iowa scored all of its points on two safeties and a field-goal by Alex Blom, so the Iowa defense actually outscored the Iowa offense, 4-3.
Patterson gives insight on why he thinks the Iowa offense failed to produce, and he also gives a brief scouting report on Iowa State, which defeated Southeast Missouri State 42-10 in its season opener this past Saturday in Ames.
Iowa has won the last six games against Iowa State and has a 46-22 advantage in the series.
Patterson’s segment of the show starts at the beginning of the two-hour podcast and lasts for approximately one hour.
We always appreciate Don’s unique insight and his knowledge of the game.
