Video: Postgame sights and sounds after Hawkeyes disappointing 10-7 lost to Cyclones
By Dallas Jones
IOWA CITY, IA – Fans for the Hawkeyes came into today’s game looking for solutions to the offensive woes they faced last Saturday against South Dakota State, but they did not get them.
The Hawkeye offense put together another lackluster performance, only totaling just 150 yards.
1st Quarter:
After a John Waggoner sack forced 4th down, T.J. Hall blocked the Cyclone punt and the Hawkeyes took over at the ISU 16.
Leshon Williams scored his first touchdown of his career on the second play of the drive on a 9-yard run.
Just before the end of the first, an ISU strip sack ended a promising Hawkeye drive and they took over near midfield.
2nd Quarter:
The Cyclones failed to take advantage of the turnover as Kaevon Merryweather forced a fumble at the one-yard line. Iowa recovered in the endzone and took over on their 20.
The Cyclones put a field goal on the board in the quarter and after interceptions by both teams, the Hawkeye led 7-3 going into the half.
3rd Quarter:
After Spencer Petras continued to struggle to start the second half with a 3 & out. The Hawkeye defense stepped up again as Terry Roberts picked off Hunter Dekkers at midfield.
After a punter duel for a couple drives, Iowa blocked their second punt of the game and started the drive at the ISU 20.
The offense then responded with a Monte Pottebaum fumble at the one, recovered by the Cyclones.
An absolutely abysmal performance from both offenses, as if it is a crime to put together a long touchdown drive.
4th Quarter:
The Cyclones finally took advantage of an Iowa mistake as Dekkers connected with Xavier Hutchinson for the 8-yard touchdown.
They led 10-7 with 8:27 left in the game. After a punt and forced turnover on downs for the Hawkeyes, they somehow found themselves with a 49-yard field goal to send the game to overtime.
Sophmroe Aaron Blom hooked the kick left, sealing the Cyclones victory.
