Hawk Fanatic podcast: Don Patterson talks about win over Minnesota and looks ahead to Nebraska
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Don Patterson made his usual Monday appearance during football season on the Hawk Fanatic radio show and podcast, and for the fourth week in a row, he broke down a Hawkeye victory.
Iowa defeated Minnesota 13-10 this past Saturday in Minneapolis for its fourth victory in a row.
Iowa has also defeated Minnesota eight straight times and in 18 of the last 22 games.
The Hawkeyes (7-4, 5-3) will face Nebraska on Black Friday at Kinnick Stadium with a Big Ten West Division title on the line.
A victory would make Iowa the West Division champion for the second year in a row.
Patterson addressed multiple topics during his 60-minute segment, including the play of senior linebacker Jack Campbell, whose interception off a deflected pass late in the fourth quarter against Minnesota helped to set up Drew Stevens’ 21-yard game-winning field goal.
Patterson, who was an assistant coach under Hayden Fry for 20 seasons at Iowa, paid Campbell the ultimate compliment by calling him a “modern day Nile Kinnick” in reference to Iowa’s only Heisman Trophy winner.
Patterson is also confident that Iowa will not take the 3-8 Cornhuskers lightly due to the character and veteran leadership on the team.
Iowa has won seven games in a row against Nebraska, but the last four games were decided by seven or fewer points.
