Iowa sophomore Payton Sandfort named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa men’s basketball sophomore Payton Sandfort has been named College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District, the association announced on Tuesday.
To be eligible for the award, nominees must have a 3.5 GPA and completed one full calendar year at their current institution and is at least a sophomore academically and athletically. Nominees must also be a starter or important reserve to the team and participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests.
Sandfort is a business major and was a Fall Semester Dean’s List honoree in 2022. He averages 9.6 points, four rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 27 games played this season. Sandfort ranks second on the team in 3-pointers made (42) and free throw percentage (.896, 43-of-48).
The native of Waukee, Iowa, advances to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-America teams will be announced on March 15.
Iowa plays at Wisconsin on Wednesday at 8 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised on BTN and broadcast on the Hawkeye Radio Network.
