Hawk Fanatic podcast: Don Patterson puts wrap on Iowa spring football
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Don Patterson was the guest on Monday’s Hawk Fanatic radio show and podcast.
The former Iowa offensive coordinator under Hayden Fry helped to put a wrap on spring football, which concluded this past Saturday with an open practice at Kinnick Stadium.
Don was among those who withstood the chilly weather to watch the practice.
He addresses multiple topics on the podcast, including the addition of Cade McNamara at quarterback, and the news that Wisconsin transfer Deacon Hill had climbed to No. 2 on the depth chart at quarterback.
Don speaks highly of tight end Erick All, who like McNamara, also transferred from Michigan to Iowa at the start of the spring semester.
Don also talks on the podcast about why he and his wife chose to retire in Iowa City.
Don is orginally from Texas, but he spent 20 years as a member of Hayden Fry’s coaching staff at Iowa from 1979-98. Don met his wife, Lisa, in Iowa City, and they both fell in love with the Iowa City community.
Don was also the head coach at Western Illinois from 1999 to 2009.
Don will be back again this fall to talk about Hawkeye football each Monday during the season.
Hawk Fanatic is fortunate to have Don’s unique insight.
