IOWA CITY, IA – The 10th-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team defeated Penn State, 1-0, on Friday afternoon at Grant Field.
“The first quarter was the best hockey I’ve seen us play yet this year. The way we moved the ball was fantastic. We just passed, supported, and enjoyed the play and they could not stay with us,” said head coach Lisa Cellucci. “We had a lot of momentum early on, and we’ve been working on that so it was fantastic. We changed our line up slightly, put a couple people in different spots, and it proved to be really successful.”
Iowa was first on the board with a goal in the first quarter at 8:48 from Dionne van Aalsum off an assist from Annika Herbine. This was van Aalsum’s fourth goal of the season.
The Hawkeyes and Nittany Lions played scoreless second, third, and fourth quarters.
Penn State outshot Iowa, 11-to-8. Both teams had three penalty corners. Mia Magnotta had six saves for Iowa.
