Iowa QB Marco Lainez out for Wisconsin game due to injury
Iowa expected to be without two of its top three quarterbacks
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The rumor about Iowa quarterback Marco Lainez being injured is true.
The redshirt freshman from New Jersey will not be available for Saturday’s game against Wisconsin at Kinnick Stadium due to an injury.
The injury reports for both teams were released approximately two hours before Saturday’s 6:34 p.m. kickoff.
Iowa is now without two of its top three quarterbacks, with starter Cade McNamara also on the injury list due to a concussion that he sustained in last week’s 40-14 victory over Northwestern.
Northwestern transfer Brendan Sullivan will make his first start for Iowa in Saturday’s game.
His backup is expected to be Colorado State transfer Jackson Stratton followed by North Scott walk-on Kyler Gerardy.
McNamara started the first eight games this season, while Lainez has yet to appear in a game this season.
Lainez’s only action as a Hawkeye came in the 35-0 loss to Tennessee in the Citrus Bowl last season when he played most of the fourth quarter. He rushed for 57 yards and completed 2-of-7 passes for four yards.
