Iowa women face Kansas in Sioux Falls, with chance to start 5-0 under new head coach Jan Jensen
Tipoff set for 6 p.m. at Sanford Pentagon

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Just four games into Jan Jensen’s time as head coach, the Iowa women’s basketball team already has won at home, on a neutral site, and on the road.
The Hawkeyes (4-0) now have another chance to win on a neutral site as they will face Kansas (4-0) on Wednesday at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
Iowa is coming off an emotional 86-73 victory over Drake this past Sunday at the Knapp Center in Des Moines.
It marked the first time that Jensen has faced her alma mater as the Iowa head coach.
Jensen was a star for the Bulldogs under Lisa Bluder in the early 1990s before launching her coaching career.
She coached under Bluder at Drake, and for nearly a quarter century at Iowa, before being promoted to the Iowa head coach on the same day Bluder announced her retirement this past May.
Bluder retired after having led Iowa to back-to-back NCAA runner-up finishes, and after having coached two-time National Player of the Year Caitlin Clark for four seasons.
It was always assumed that Jensen would be promoted to head coach, and so far, Jensen has picked up where Bluder left off by winning games.
The emergence of senior center Addi O’Grady is one of the early storylines this season.
The Colorado native scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the win over Drake this past Sunday.
She also scored 18 points, and made all nine of her field-goal attempts, in a win over Virginia Tech on a neutral site in Charlotte, North Carolina.
O’Grady has played so well that Jensen has had moments where she is reminded of former Iowa All-Big Ten center Monika Czinano.
“I’m so happy to see that,” Jensen said of O’Grady’s performance after the Drake game. “She has worked so hard to get to this point, and she followed up that Virginia Tech game, and you’re kind of like, okay, is this who she is? And I thought she was tremendous tonight. Sometimes, I can tell my expectations get higher and higher and there were couple times I could feel I was having Monika Czinano expectations, and that’s a good thing.
“So, I’m thrilled for her. We knew we had the advantage inside. I wasn’t so sure how she was going to feel about that because she’s never had that on her shoulders. And she answered beautifully.”
The Iowa men’s and women’s basketball teams are both playing games at neutral sites to help build their brands, and as a way of reaching out to fans from different areas.
The Iowa men just defeated Washington State 76-66 this past Friday in Moline, Illinois and will face Utah State this coming Friday in Kansas City, Missouri.
