Iowa softball coach Renee Gillispie stepping away from coaching for 2025 season for personal health matter

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa Athletics Department announced on Tuesday that Iowa softball head coach Renee Gillispie will be stepping away from coaching for the 2025 season due to a personal health matter.
Assistant Coach Brian Levin has been named the interim head coach for the 2025 softball season.
Gillispie has a 136-151 overall record since being hired as the Iowa head coach in 2019. That includes a National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC) title in 2023.
The Iowa native previously spent 18 seasons as Central Florida’s first head softball coach. She compiled a 624-403-1 overall record for Central Florida.
Levin has been a member of the Iowa staff for two seasons.
He was the head coach for Southern Mississippi for three years. He had a 65-62 record during his time with the Golden Eagles before resigning.
