Iowa baseball crushes Augustana 16-1 at Duane Banks Field

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa baseball team defeated Augustana, 16-1, on Tuesday evening at Duane Banks Field.
10 Iowa pitchers saw the mound on Tuesday in a scheduled bullpen game. Freshman Tyler Guerin made his first collegiate start for the Hawkeyes. He gave up one hit and struck out two over one inning.
The Vikings threatened in the fourth, but Justin Hackett came in to pitch with two outs and battled out of a bases loaded jam to keep the game knotted at one. They threatened again in the fifth and sixth innings, but both Chas Wheatley and Will Pearson came in clutch to strand the Vikings on the bases.
The Iowa pitching staff combined for 10 strikeouts while walking four Viking hitters. After a slow start, the Iowa offense totaled 17 hits and notched 14 RBIs.
The Hawkeyes got on the board first in the second inning after Tyler Guerin recorded his first collegiate hit and then Daniel Rogers knocked him in with a double. Iowa took a 2-1 lead in the fifth after singles from Rogers and Mitch Wood and an RBI fielder’s choice by Ben Swails. Iowa added one more in the sixth on an RBI SAC fly from Reese Moore.
The Hawkeyes blew the game wide open in the seventh inning, scolring eight runs off of six hits, a wild pitch and an RBI groundout. They added five more in the eighth
Rogers finished the game 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
