Brock Harding Enters Portal
Iowa PG Looking to Transfer

IOWA CITY, Iowa – A second Iowa men’s basketball player announced he was entering the transfer portal. Sophomore point guard Brock Harding joined his high school and college teammate, Owen Freeman, in looking for a new college home.
“I want to thank coach (Fran) McCaffery and the entire staff for believing in me two years ago,” Harding wrote in a statement posted on social media on Monday morning. “I’ve built relationships with this staff that I will have for the rest of my life. Wearing the black and gold the past two years has been a dream come true, and I’ve cherished every moment. The opportunities I’ve had and the lessons I’ve learned will stay with me forever.
“With that being said, due to the recent coaching change at Iowa, I’ve decided it’s in my best interest to enter the transfer portal. A special shoutout to my all teammates – Brothers 4L.”
Iowa athletic director Beth Goetz fired McCaffery on Sunday after he led the program for the last 15 years, becoming its all-time leader in wins. The Hawkeyes were the only Power 4 school to offer Harding a scholarship when he was coming out of Moline (IL) High.
Harding was listed at 6-feet on the team’s roster, which was being generous. His lack of height in a tall person’s game didn’t stop him from averaging 8.8 points, and Iowa-bests in assists (5.3 APG) and steals (1.5 SPG), this past season.
McCaffery started the sophomore in the first 21 games of the 2024-25 campaign. Harding came off of the bench for nine of the final 12 contests.
Harding played well as a reserve and appeared engaged despite losing his starting job. He displayed frustration with his critics through social media on Feb. 22, however.
