Georgia Tech transfer point guard Chazadi “Chit-Chat” Wright commits to Iowa women’s basketball

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa women’s basketball coach Jan Jensen has been trying to land a point guard from the transfer portal for several weeks and her persistence finally has paid dividends.
Chazadi “Chit-Chat” Wright, who played for Georgia Tech this past season as a freshman, has committed to Iowa according to multiple reports.
The 5-foot-4 Wright averaged 7.2 points and 2.6 assists per game this past season.
“We are thrilled with the addition of Chit Chat to our team,” Jensen said in a release. “She is a skilled and explosive guard that is relentless on both end of the floor. She is a great fit in every way, and I can’t wait for our fans to watch her play.”

Her commitment on Wednesday comes just five days after Jensen hired former Georgia Tech assistant coach LaSondra Barrett to replace the departed Raina Harmon, who is now the head coach for Florida Gulf Coast.
Wright, who is from Atlanta, shot 37 percent from the field, 32 percent from three and 89 percent from the line while appearing in 33 games as a freshman. She also played an average 25.3 minutes per game.
Wright was recruited to help fill the void at point guard that was caused by Aaliyah Guyton’s decision to transfer to Illinois, and by Lucy Olsen having exhausted her eligibility this past season.
Guyton was Iowa’s backup point guard as freshman this past season, while Olsen made first-team all-Big Ten in her only season with the Hawkeyes.
Iowa was one of the finalists for Arizona transfer point guard Jada Williams, but she committed to Iowa State shortly after having visited both schools.
Iowa will add a talented guard to the roster next season with the addition of California five-star recruit Addie Deal, who signed with the Hawkeyes in November.
Veteran guard Kylie Feuerbach also has decided to return for a sixth season.
Wright was a four-star recruit coming out of high school according to ESPN and a two-time all-state selection by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She led her high school team to a pair regional titles and was named the Region 7 Class 3A Player of the Year in 2023.
Wright surpassed 1,000 career points as a high school junior and was a three-year team captain.
