Hawkeyes Host Top ’27 Receiver
Chicago's Quentin Burrell Enjoys Iowa Visit
It was a joyous Easter weekend for Quentin Burrell. He and his family spent Saturday visiting Iowa Football. On the holiday, they enjoyed time with relatives in Cedar Rapids.
“My dad’s family is from Cedar Rapids, so it was nice to combine the visit with Easter,” Burrell said.
Burrell is one of the top receivers in the 2027 Class. The Chicago Mount Carmel High sophomore reports scholarship offers from Iowa, Illinois, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Purdue, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin.
The Hawkeyes offered on Jan. 7, the same day as Michigan. He looked forward to being in Iowa City on Saturday.
“I liked the opportunity to see the team practice and see how their offense looks. I liked getting time to meet with coach (Kirk) Ferentz, coach (Tim) Lester and coach Bud (Jon Budmayr),” he said.
Burrell (6-3, 195) sees Iowa’s system as one that would take advantage of his talents.
“I’m an explosive player and I like to make plays downfield. They want to extend the field more on offense, so that fits my skillset,” he said.
Mount Carmel won a state championship in 2024. Burrell hauled on 75 passes for 1,257 yards and 18 touchdowns as a sophomore.
The 247 Sports Composite Ranking shows him as the third-ranked receiver and the No. 43 player overall in the ’27 cycle. He’s the No. 11 wideout and the 68th-ranked player overall in the On3 Industry Ranking.
Burrell also visited Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Missouri and Louisville since the beginning of March. He’s decided to take his time and gather as much information as possible.
“It’s still the beginning (of the recruiting process) as my offers started coming in January. I have a few more schools I want to see that I didn’t get a chance to yet. Relationships are key for me. So, once June 15 comes, I hope to continue building relationships with coaches and see which schools stand out,” he said.
NCAA rules allow college football coaches direct off-campus contact with 2027 prospects beginning June 15.
As for Iowa, Burrell plans on returning to campus as time allows.
“I’m not sure yet when I’ll be back, maybe to catch a home game, if that works with my football schedule. Right now, I’m finishing up school and workouts with my team. I’ll probably take a week off and then prep for another state title starts in June,” he said.
