Blake Betton Recaps Iowa Stop
Offered MN LB See Hawkeyes Top Penn St.
Blake Betton boasts a long list of suitors most prep prospects would appreciate having. The junior from Minnesota reports scholarship offers from Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Washington State and Wisconsin.
The Hawkeyes offered after having him at their camp in June. He attended a game at Kinnick earlier this season and was back in town last Saturday when they beat Penn State. It made an impression.
“The big win over Penn State was awesome. We stayed along with all the fans until the very end,” he said. “I also really liked listening to Micah Hyde talk to the recruits before we went out on the field for warm-ups; was fun to hear him talk about his experience as a Hawkeye and his journey in the NFL.”
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Betton spoke with Iowa linebacker coach Seth Wallace, who shared what the Hawkeyes like about him.
“Coach Wallace and I talked prior to the game during warm-ups and had a great conversation. He’s got a strong track record building linebackers that make it to the NFL. Iowa has always been great about making me feel like a priority,” Betton said.
“I feel great about the program. I like the coaching staff and that they are focused on developing players coming out of high school.”
Betton is taking his time with the recruiting process. Most of his offers only started rolling in May, and he’s getting to know schools and programs better, including Iowa.
“I’ve been there four times, I think, since last year when we first came to a game-day visit. I haven’t been able to see the full campus outside of football, so that’s something I’d like to learn more about,” he said.
Iowa State, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Michigan and Minnesota also have played host to Betton on game-day visits this season. His latest trip to Iowa came with the added bonus of watching his high school teammate, Nehemiah Ombati, pick up an Iowa offer. Iowa State, Wisconsin and some of the top FCS programs also have jumped in with the 2027 defensive lineman.
“It was great. He’s really excited about the (Hawkeye) offer,” Betton said.
Prep Redzone ranks Betton as the No. 2 prospect overall in Minnesota’s 2027 Class. The 247 Composite Rankings put him third. That service also sees him as the No. 33 linebacker nationally in the cycle.
