4-star RB Eno Benjamin has cryptic message for Iowa fans
IOWA CITY, Iowa – In less than two weeks, assuming he sticks to his plan, Eno Benjamin will give fans from one college football team reason to celebrate.
On April 18, which is two Mondays from now, Benjamin will announce his choice for college.
The 4-star running back from Wylie, Texas hasn’t been shy about saying Iowa is his favorite school. Benjamin has embraced everything about the Iowa program, including the fans on social media.
Benjamin already has made his decision and is just waiting until after his birthday on April 13 to go public with it.
Asked on Tuesday what he would say to Iowa fans who are anxiously awaiting his announcement, Benjamin gave an answer that was cryptic to say the least.
“Prepare for the worst, but always pray for the best,” Benjamin said in a text message to allhawkeyes recruiting correspondent Tyler Devine.
With over 25 scholarship offers, Benjamin saw his stock soar after a spectacular junior season in which he rushed for over 2,600 yards. His list of offers include Michigan, Arizona, Arizona State, Missouri and Northwestern and at least 20 others.
Benjamin said the fact that Iowa received a verbal commitment from a running back in the 2017 class on Monday – Illinois native Ivory Kelly-Martin committed to the Hawkeyes – won’t affect his decision.
“It didn’t really cross my mind at all,” Benjamin said. “I can compete with another running back or three others.
“I trust my skills and seek opportunity.”
Kelly-Martin was the eighth player to commit to Iowa’s 2017 recruiting class and the second from Illinois.
He joins Edwardsville, Ill., native and 5-star defensive end A.J. Epenesa, who committed to Iowa in January and is now trying to convince Benjamin to be a Hawkeye on social media.
“I need all hawkeye fans to tell my man Eno Benjamin to quit playing and come join me and the gang at IOWA,” Epenesa said Tuesday afternoon on Twitter.
