IOWA CITY, Iowa – With or without Matt Hankins, the Iowa secondary would have been one of the team’s most experienced groups for the 2021 season.
But with Hankins having decided to return for his senior season, as reported by HawkeyeNation.com, Iowa’s secondary is now loaded with its top five players returning.
The 6-foot-, 180-pound Hankins has started 26 games as a Hawkeye with three interceptions and five pass breakups.
Hankins, a native of Lewisville, Texas, will join Jack Koerner, Dane Belton, Kaevon Merriweather and Dane Belton as returning players in the Iowa secondary.
In other personnel news, junior linebacker Djimon Colbert told HawkeyeNation.com on Friday that he was retiring from football and choosing to focus on graduating.
Colbert, a native of Shawnee Mission, Kan., opted out of the 2020 season after starting 23 games during his first two years as a Hawkeye.
