Iowa early favorite for 2018 Pennsylvania QB Kevin Doyle
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Pennsylvania native Kevin Doyle is by description a pro-style quarterback, but the high school junior isn’t limited to just throwing from the pocket.
He also can make plays as a runner and the Iowa coaches are impressed enough to have recently offered Doyle a scholarship.
The interest is mutual.
"It is great," Doyle said Thursday. "I have the highest respect for the Iowa staff and football tradition. I am very honored to have the opportunity that I have with them.
"They stand near the top. I have a strong interest in Iowa. I’m very excited to have the offer from them."
Doyle hasn’t visited Iowa, but he knows enough about the football program to appreciate the stability within the coaches staff, the loyal fan base and the success under Kirk Ferentz, who is in his 18th season as the Iowa head coach.
Doyle considers himself a pro-style quarterback, but he also has the ability to make plays as a runner when necessary.
"I like their style of offense and the stable coaching staff," Doyle said. "I also like the passionate fans. I could see myself fitting in really well in the offense as a pro style guy myself who can make plays with his feet.
"They said that I am very athletic and have a very strong arm and would be a great fit for Iowa."
Landing Doyle won’t be easy as Iowa is his fourth scholarship offer from a Big Ten school. He also has offers from Indiana, Nebraska and Michigan State, as well as interest from Georgia and Alabama.
