2019 offensive tackle Quinn Carroll surprised by Iowa offer

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa doesn't often offer a scholarship to an offensive lineman who still has two years of high school football remaining.
Quinn Carroll, a high school sophomore from Edina, Minn., is an exception.
"It came as somewhat of a surprise due to the lack of 2019 offensive linemen Iowa has offered," Carroll said Wednesday. "It feels amazing."
Carroll said the Iowa coaches like his athleticism and see the 6-foot-6, 280-pounder staying on the offensive side of the ball at the next level.
"They say that I fit their program with my athleticism and toughness," Carroll said. "They are recruiting me offensively. I'd assume as a tackle along with every other school."
Carroll had a chance to experience the game-day atmosphere at Kinnick Stadium during Iowa's 40-10 beat-down of Nebraska on Senior Day. He also took a tour of Iowa's state-of-the-art facilities.
"I'd say the facilities and how full and energetic the crowd and stadium was what really stood out to me," Carroll said.
Iowa is known for developing quality offensive linemen under veteran head coach Kirk Ferentz, who coached the Iowa offensive line from 1981-89 under former head coach Hayden Fry. Ferentz's son, former Iowa offensive lineman Brian Ferentz, now coaches the Iowa offensive line.
Landing Carroll won't be easy as he already has scholarship offers from Wisconsin, Northwestern, Iowa State, Minnesota and Pittsburgh.
He is in no hurry to make a decision and wants to "soak in" the recruiting process. Carroll said his plan for now is to wait until his senior year to pick a school.
