AH Podcast: Don Patterson goes in depth about the overtime victory at Iowa State
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Former Iowa offensive coordinator Don Patterson joined us again on Monday and there was plenty to discuss in the wake of Iowa's 44-41 overtime victory against Iowa State this past Saturday in Ames.
Patterson had high praise for Iowa sophomore quarterback Nate Stanley. who passed for 333 yards and five touchdowns in just his second career start and his first start on the road.
Senior running back Akrum Wadley also drew praise from Patterson, who in addition to being on Hayden Fry's staff at Iowa for 20 years was the head coach at Western Illinois and an assistant coach at Buffalo and Connecticut before recently retiring.
Patterson also likes that the Iowa defense led the way in the 24-3 win over Wyoming in the season opener, while offense was the driving force against Iowa State. It shows that Iowa can win in different ways.
Patterson compared Iowa's 12-game schedule to running the hurdles in track. Each game is like a hurdle and all that matters is the next hurdle, which for Iowa is North Texas on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.
So if you want some insight from somebody who has competed at the Big Ten level, give this podcast a listen. Patterson's segment takes up the first 30 minutes of the hour-long podcasrt.
He will join us again next Monday and throughout the season on Mondays.
