AH podcast: Gary Dolphin talks in detail about Gary Barta’s medical situation
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Gary Dolphin is more than just a voice heard on the radio as we experienced on Friday.
Iowa's radio play-by-play announcer was the guest for our latest KCJJ/AllHawkeyes radio hour and he addressed a number of topics, including Gary Barta's medical situation.
The news broke on Tuesday that Barta, 54, has prostate cancer and will take a leave of absence fom his job as the Iowa Athletic Director, a position he has held since 2006, to undergo treatment.
Dolphin has unique insight and perspective as a prostate cancer survivor, as does KCJJ station owner Steve Bridges, who also has made a full recovery after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Dolphin said Barta recently pulled him aside to inform him about his diagnosis and to ask for advice on how to approach his treatment.
Dolphin also talked about the 4-2 Iowa football team, which is currently in its bye week, and he gave a brief preview of the Iowa men's basketball team, which will hold its annual media day event on Monday.
So if you're into Iowa Hawkeye athletics, then this podcast is for you because who better to discuss the Hawkeyes than the voice of the Hawkeyes himself?
