IOWA CITY, Iowa – Kansas City native Desmond Hutson’s hard work began to pay off on Tuesday.
The 2019 receiver prospect received his first scholarship offer from the Iowa football team.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Hutson is using the offer as motivation to see what other offers may arise.
“I’m overwhelmed with joy,” Hutson said. “It’s something I’ve been working towards for a while now. I’m just happy that the time has come. Now I’m just thinking how I can get better.”
Hutson has also heard from Iowa State, Missouri and Kansas, but he said no matter what other opportunities he gets, Iowa being the first to offer will always stand out.
“It’s a big factor,” Hutson said. “With Iowa being the first school to trust me and actually give me my first chance that means a lot to me and my family.”
Hutson hasn’t had the chance to visit Iowa yet, but it looking forward to developing a relationship with the Iowa coaching staff.
He also wants to get a better glimpse into life as a Hawkeye athlete.
“I really want to know the relationships between the coaching staff and the players,” Hutson said. “I’m looking for a college who treats players as a family more than just business partners because this is who I will see every day for four to five years of my life.”
Hutson also said he’s hoping to make it to Iowa City for the football team’s next junior day event.
