’23 New England Big Man Joseph Estrella Talks Iowa Basketball Offer
Iowa Basketball is gaining some traction recruiting New England. Redshirt freshman post Josh Ogundele hails from Worcester (MA) Academy. Class of 2022 signee Desonte Bowen will be coming to the Hawkeyes from Wolfeboro (NH) Brewster Academy.
The Hawkeyes reached back East with another scholarship offer on Friday. They extended on opportunity to ’23 South Portland (ME) High and Middlesex Magic AAU big man Joseph Estrella. He welcomed it.
“I don’t know too much about Iowa yet but am excited to learn more,” Estrella told HF. “What I like about them so far is definitely the coaching staff. They are an awesome group of people.”
The Hawkeyes conducted a virtual meeting with Estrella Friday, when they offered the scholarship.
“Coach (Courtney) Eldridge was the guy who has been texting me, and coach (Billy) Taylor came down to watch me play. They all believed I would be a great fit there because they believe in my talents. They know I can stretch the floor and know I am strong in the paint. They want to use me for both those reasons,” Estrella said.
Syracuse, Providence, Tennessee and Harvard also have reportedly offered Estrella scholarships. He’s visited all of those schools besides Tennessee and planned to check out the Hawkeyes.
“I don’t know when I will visit, but I will for sure. I want to learn everything I can about them,” he said.
Estrella (6-10) is interested in finding out more about the academics at Iowa as well.
“I want to study Business with a side of Sports Management in college,” said.
The New England Recruiting Report ranks Estrella as the No. 1 player in Maine and the 10th best player overall in New England for ’23.
