Florida DB Rashad Godfrey commits to Iowa’s 2024 class
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team’s 2024 recruiting class continues to grow at a rapid pace.
The latest addition is Florida defensive back Rashad Godfrey, who announced his commitment to Iowa via Twitter on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-1, 185 pound Godfrey, who attends Armwood High School in Seffner, Florida, picked Iowa over at least 17 other scholarship offers froms schools that include Duke, Boston College, South Florida, Florida Atlantic and North Dakota State.
He is the 18th player to commit to Iowa’s 2024 class and the seventh to commit since late June.
He is also the first defensive back to commit to Iowa’s 2024 class.
Veteran recruiting analyst Tom Lemming ranks Godfrey as a three star-plus recruit and close to a four-star.
“Good length, good growth potential, should weigh 200 (pounds) by next year and runs very well,” Lemming said of Godfrey.
Iowa running backs coach Ladell Betts is listed as the primary recruiter for Godfrey.
Betts, who played running back for Iowa, and for nine seasons in the NFL, was a high school coach in south Florida before joining the Iowa staff in 2021.
Godfrey is now set to join an Iowa program that has a long history of turning defensive backs into star players under defensive coordinator Phil Parker.
Iowa has had 18 defensive backs selected in the NFL draft since Parker joined Kirk Ferentz’s original staff in 1999.
Iowa also received a verbal commitment from Grundy Center defensive lineman Trent Cakerice on Wednesday. Cakerice has accepted Iowa’s offer to be a preferred walk-on.
