Iowa sophomore Keaton Anthony will sign undrafted free agent contract with Philadelphia Phillies

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa redshirt sophomore Keaton Anthony will sign an undrafted free agent contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, it was announced following the conclusion of the 2023 Major League Draft.
Anthony is the fourth Hawkeye from the 2023 team that will continue with a Major League Baseball organization. Iowa had two players – Jared Simpson and Ty Langenberg – selected in the 2023 MLB Draft and Will Christophersen will also sign a UDFA deal.
The Hoschton, Georgia, native earned third-team All-America honors in 2023 after hitting .389 (61-of-157) with 22 doubles, nine home runs, 38 RBIs and 51 runs during the regular season. His 22 doubles are second-most in program history.
During his three years in Iowa City, Anthony hit .372, starting 96 games. He tallied 44 doubles — the eighth most in program history — and 23 home runs. Anthony threw 22 innings with a 4.50 ERA while striking out 18.
Anthony signed as a free agent despite having missed the final 18 games of the 2023 regular as part of an investigation into sports wagering.
The Hawkeyes finished the 2023 season with a 44-16 overall record with the 44 wins tied for most in program history. Iowa finished third in the Big Ten regular season standings, advanced to the Big Ten Tournament championship game and the team won two games at the Terre Haute Regional in Iowa’s first NCAA Regional appearance since 2017.
