Cade McNamara confirms intentions to return for 2024 season
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara has one more season of college eligibility, and as expected, he will spend it as a member of the Iowa football team.
McNamara posted a statement Wednesday night saying that he plans to return to Iowa for his final season at the college level.
He started five games for the Hawkeyes this season before suffering a season-ending knee injury against Michigan State.
“Was not anticipating one of these when this year began, however, there are some things in life that cannot be explained but the best we can do is put our faith in God and follow the path he has chosen for us,” McNamara said. “I want to thank everyone for all the love and support. The road ahead is rigorous but nothing I haven’t overcome before. I can’t wait to get to Iowa City to support my teammates for the rest of the season.
“I had a vision when I decided to come Iowa and that vision remains the same. There is still a lot I want to accomplish in the Black and Gold and look forward to bringing it to life in the 2024 season.
“Go Hawks!”
McNamara, a native of Reno, Nevada, transferred to Iowa after having led Michigan to the 2021 Big Ten title as its starting quarterback.
He suffered a setback in the Kids Day practice in August when he sustained a soft tissue injury.
He was less than 100 percent when the season started, but still started the first five games, completing 51.1 percent of his passes for 505 yards and four touchdowns.
McNamara, in addition to releasing a statement, posted a picture of himself in the hospital with his left knee in a brace.
