Cedar Rapids Kennedy OL Nick Brooks de-commits from Iowa
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team suffered a big loss in recruiting, literally and figurately, as Cedar Rapids Kennedy offensive lineman Nick Brooks announced on Tuesday that he has de-committed from Iowa.
“After talking with family I will be decommiting from the university of Iowa… My recruitment is still open 100%,” Brooks posted on X, which was formerly known as Twitter.
Brooks would go on to tweet later on Tuesday that he has been offered scholarship from Colorado, whose head coach is Deion Sanders.
Brooks, who is in the 2025 senior class, verbally pledged to Iowa in September. He chose the Hawkeyes over reported scholarship offers from Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Iowa State, Nebraska and Tennessee, among others.
Prep Red Zone ranks the 6-foot-8, 350-pound Brooks 12th among 2025 prospects in Iowa at the time of publishing. The On3 industry shows him as the top player state for the cycle and the No. 16 offensive tackle in the country.
The decision by Brooks to de-commit from Iowa comes less than a year after former Southeast Polk five-star offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor also de-committed from the Hawkeyes.
Proctor ultimately signed with Alabama where he now starts at left tackle as a true freshman.
The loss of Brooks is a blow for an Iowa program whose current offense is ranked at or near the bottom nationally in multiple statistical categories.
However, despite the problems on offense, Iowa is 7-2 overall and in sole possession of first place in the Big Ten West Division with a 4-2 record.
It’s uncertain how much of factor Iowa’s offense was in Brooks’ decision to de-commit.
