2025 Illinois LB Carson Cooney commits to Iowa
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team held its annual junior day event on Saturday and it’s already paying dividends in recruiting.
Carson Cooney, a 6-foot-3, 225 linebacker from Oswego, Illinois, announced his commitment to Iowa on Saturday via X, which was formerly known as Twitter.
Cooney picked Iowa over scholarships offers from schools that include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Northwestern and Wisconsin.
He is ranked as a three-star recruit by both Rivals and On3sports.
Cooney is also the fourth player to commit to Iowa’s 2025 recruiting class.
The others are lineman Joey VanWetzinga from Pleasant Valley, quarterback Jimmy Sullivan from Forth Wayne, Indiana and athlete Burke Gautcher from Sycamore, Illinois.
