Hawk Fanatic podcast: Jan Jensen makes first appearance as Iowa women’s basketball head coach
Iowa cross country runner Hayden Kuhn also appears on the near two-hour podcast
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Jan Jensen had been a guest on the Hawk Fanatic radio show and podcast before making Wednesday’s appearance.
But this latest appearance was her first time appearing on the show as the Iowa women’s basketball head coach.
And like always, she delivered.
Jensen spent about 40 minutes addressing multiple topics, including Iowa’s impact on the WNBA where former Hawkeyes Caitlin Clark, Megan Gustafson and Kate Martin are now playing.
Jensen talks about the transition that Gustafson has made from being a low post center for Iowa to a forward in the WNBA who now mostly plays facing the basket.
Jensen also talks about the enormous impact that Clark has had on the WNBA as a rookie for the Indiana Fever.
And of course, Jensen talks about her new role as the Iowa the head coach and about the impact that former Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder has had on her.
Jensen says she loves the attitude and the makeup of her current team, which includes six new players, including former Villanova guard Lucy Olsen, who averaged over 23 points per game last season.
We appreciate Jan Jensen taking time from her busy schedule to speak with us.
Iowa cross country runner Hayden Kuhn also appears on the show to help promote the Hawkeyes Invite that will be held Friday in Iowa City to kick off the 2024 season.
And yes, Kuhn, a Marion native, is named after former Iowa football coach Hayden Fry.
Jensen’s interview starts at the beginning of the podcast, while Kuhn’s interview starts 90 minutes into the near two-hour podcast.
