Seventh-ranked Iowa field hockey team defeats Villanova 2-0

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA – The seventh-ranked University of Iowa field hockey shutout Villanova, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Conshohocken Proving Grounds.
The Hawkeyes and Wildcats played a scoreless first half with Iowa attempting 5 shots to Villanova’s 3.
In the third quarter, Iowa lit up the scoreboard, with Gia Whalen scoring at 32:03 unassisted. This was Whalen’s first goal of the season and the first of her career.
Iowa extended its lead in the fourth quarter, with Lieve van Kessel finding the back of the net, with an assist from Rachel Herbine. This was van Kessel’s second goal of the season.
Iowa outshot Villanova, 8-to-7. Villanova had two penalty corners compared to Iowa’s one. Mia Magnotta had two saves in Iowa’s fifth shutout of the season.
