Iowa women face Purdue Sunday in Big Ten home opener

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa women’s basketball team returns to Big Ten play against Purdue on Sunday, and with having had more than a week to prepare over the holiday break.
Iowa’s last game was a 92-86 victory over Northern Iowa on Dec. 20 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The win over UNI was Iowa’s 18th straight win at home, and it also improved Iowa’s record to 37-2 inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena over the past three seasons.
The 24th-ranked Hawkeyes under first-year head coach Jan Jensen will bring records of 10-2 overall and 0-1 in the Big Ten into Sunday’s game, while Purdue is 7-5 and 0-1.
Iowa lost to Michigan State 78-68 in the Big Ten opener on Dec. 7 in East Lansing, Michigan.
The last time Iowa started 0-2 in Big Ten play was 2013-14.
The Hawkeyes also have not dropped back-to-back games since Nov. 27, 2022, and Dec. 1, 2022.
Iowa senior center Addi O’Grady has been in double figures in nine games after scoring in double figures just twice over her previous two seasons.
Villanova transfer Lucy Olsen has recorded 10-plus points in all 10 starts as a Hawkeye.
Purdue, meanwhile, compiled a 7-4 record in the non-conference play with three of the losses coming against top-20 opponents.
Purdue is 7-1 this season when forcing 15 or more turnovers, while Iowa combined to commit 53 turnovers in its two losses to Tennessee and Michigan State.
Purdue head coach Katie Gearlds is 0-4 against the Hawkeyes.
Purdue added four transfers to its roster; Ella Collier (Marian, NAIA), Destini Lombard (Stephen F. Austin), Reagan Bass (Akron), and Mahri Petree (UTEP).
