Former Iowa QB Cade McNamara signs with East Tennessee State

IOWA CITY, Iowa – From Michigan to Iowa and now East Tennessee State, Cade McNamara’s up-and-down journey as a college quarterback will continue.
The news broke Saturday morning that McNamara has signed with East Tennessee State, which competes at the FCS level and is located in Johnson City, Tennessee.
McNamara played the previous two seasons for Iowa, where he started 13 games over two injury-shortened seasons.

The Reno, Nevada native started his college career at Michigan and he led the Wolverines to the 2021 Big Ten title and to college playoff that season as its starting quarterback.
McNamara then lost the starting position to J.J. McCarthy early in the 2022 season, and McNamara would then go on to suffer a season-ending knee injury.
He transferred to Iowa early in 2023 and the hope was that McNamara would help fix Iowa’s problems at quarterback.
But it just didn’t happen as McNamara struggled to stay healthy in his two seasons as a Hawkeye, and to play well.
McNamara entered the transfer portal shortly after the 2024 season and he will now have a chance to play in a rare seventh season at the collegiate level.
East Tennessee State finished 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the Southern Conference this past season.
