Sophomore Owen Freeman officially enters transfer portal
By Dallas Jones
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Less than 24 hours after it was announced that Fran McCaffery would be out as the Iowa men’s basketball coach, sophomore forward Owen Freeman not surprisingly has entered the transfer portal.
The Moline, Illinois native was the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Year last season, averaging 10.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Freeman would have drawn plenty of interest in the portal after his freshman season, but he decided to stay in Iowa City for this season.

Freeman improved on his numbers across the board this season, leading the Hawkeyes in points per game (16.7), rebounds per game (6.7) and blocks per game (1.8).
However, he suffered a finger injury in early February that required surgery and caused him to miss the rest of the season.
Freeman will be one of the premier big men in the portal this season, most likely bringing in a seven figure pay day wherever he lands.
Freeman posted a statement on X this morning, captioned “Thank you Iowa❤️”.
