IOWA CITY, Iowa – Former Iowa basketball player Payton Sandfort made his second guest appearance on the Hawk Fanatic/KCJJ radio show and podcast on Friday.
Payton also appeared as a guest during this past season, and it was such a good interview that we invited him back by popular demand.
Payton goes into detail about all the physical ailments he suffered through this season, and he also addresses his future, which will soon include having surgery on both shoulders about six weeks apart.
Payton said his recovery will take about six months, but he is confident that he will land at least a two-way deal with an NBA team.
The 6-foot-8 Waukee native tested the NBA draft process last spring and reportedly could have signed a two-way deal a year ago.
Payton also talks about Fran McCaffery being hired at Penn, which is Fran McCaffery’s alma mater, and about Ben McCollum being hired as Fran McCaffery’s replacement at Iowa.
Payton also shares what advice he has for his younger brother, Pryce Sandfort, who is currently in the transfer portal after playing for Iowa the past two seasons.
Pryce Sandfort just finished taking a visit to Nebraska.
Despite his ailing shoulders, Payton Sandfort said he still plans to participate in the 3-point shooting contest at the Final Four.
Payton’s interview starts one hour into the 90-minute podcast and lasts for about 30 minutes.
