Iowa teammates Ryan Johnson, Mike Stein both set facility records at Musco Twilight

CORALVILLE, Iowa – The University of Iowa track and field team began the 23rd-annual Musco Twilight with a new school record, two facility records and multiple personal bests at the Francis X. Cretzmeyer Outdoor Track and Field Complex on Friday afternoon. Ryan Johnson and Mike Stein highlighted the day with two facility records.
In the men’s hammer throw, the Hawkeyes swept the podium. Sophomore Ryan Johnson led the way, breaking his own school record and setting a new facility record with a throw of 73.20 meters (240’ 2”). Junior Sean Smith took second by throwing 66.93 meters (219’ 7”). Redshirt sophomore Austin Busch rounded out the top three with a throw of 65.61 meters (215’ 3”).
In the men’s javelin, junior Mike Stein placed first with a throw of 78.58 meters (257’ 9”). Stein’s throw set a new facility record and moved him to 3rd in NCAA Division 1 this season.
“It was nice to have our athletes competing at home,” associate director and throws coach Ray Robinson said. “We had several strong performances including season bests and personal records. We also had two facility records and a school record. Overall, a great start to the weekend as we push forward towards the Big Ten Championships.”

Senior Alivia Bauer and redshirt freshman Peyton Wilson took home two of the top three spots in the women’s hammer throw. Bauer placed second and earned the top collegiate finish, throwing 57.33 meters (188’ 1”), while Wilson placed third with a new personal best of 56.33 meters (184’9”).
In the women’s javelin, sophomore Carlee Rochford set a new personal best of 37.80 meters (124’ 0”) and took home first place.
