Iowa basketball player Tavion Banks arrested for alleged fight with staff at downtown Iowa City bar
Incident allegedly occurred early Sunday morning

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa men’s basketball player Tavion Banks was arrested this past weekend for an alleged fight with staff at a downtown Iowa City bar.
Banks was charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct, fighting or violent behavior.
Online court documents say Banks was seen in an altercation with the staff at ReUnion Brewery around 1:16 a.m. early Sunday morning.
The Iowa Athletic Department released a statement Monday morning about Banks’ situation.
“The UI Athletics Department and men’s basketball program are aware of Tavion Banks’ citation over the weekend. He is subject to established university protocol regarding the UI Student-Athlete Code of Conduct, and the rules and regulations set for members of the men’s basketball program.”
Banks, a 6-foot-7 senior forward from Kansas City, Missouri, is one of six former Drake players that transferred to Iowa after Ben McCollum was hired as the new Iowa head coach in March.
Banks was named the Missouri Valley Conference Sixth Man of the Year this past season, helping the Bulldogs to a 31-4 record in McCollum’s only season as the Drake head coach,. Banks averaged 10.1 points and five rebounds while playing most off the bench for the Bulldogs.
