IOWA CITY, Iowa – The 19th-ranked Iowa women’s basketball team finished undefeated during its two-game road trip in Florida.
Barely.
The Hawkeyes hung on to defeat Miami (Fla.) 64-61 in their second game in the WBCA State Farm Showcase on Saturday in Orlando, Florida.
The win came two days after Iowa defeated No. 7 Baylor 57-53 in the first game of the event on Thursday.
Iowa missed its final 11 shots from the field in Saturday’s game and was held scoreless of over eight minutes in the fourth quarter after having led 55-46 after three quarters.
Graduate guard Kylie Feuerbach made three free throws in the final 11 seconds to help secure the win. It was the only points she scored in the game.
Iowa improved to 6-0 under second-year head coach Jan Jensen, while Miami fell to 4-1.
Sophomore center Ava Heiden continued to play well for the Hawkeyes as she finished with 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field and had six rebounds.
The Oregon native finished with 18 point and 11 rebounds in the win over Baylor on Thursday.
Iowa played Saturday’s game without starting point guard Chit-Chat Wright, who was injured early in the third quarter against Baylor, and was matched against an opponent that likes to press.
Sophomore Taylor Stremlow handled most of the point guard duties in Saturday’s game and finished with seven points, eight rebounds and five assists.
“We found a win to win and we didn’t have Chat the entire game,” Jensen said on the Learfield post-game radio show. “We beat a Baylor team when she was out for half of the game.
“And then we had one day of prep for a team that had a lot of pressure and we didn’t have our greatest ball handler. So it was little bit different and I felt like we were pretty confident for the most part. But that fourth quarter we got a lot more tight and they increased their pressure.

“I do have to work on that ball pressure because when they push us like that, we get a little bit farther out in our offense. We’re initiating it two to three feet farther back then you’d like to.”
Senior forward Hannah Stuelke and senior guard Taylor McCabe also scored in double figures for Iowa with 17 and 11 points, respectively.
Stuelke also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, while McCabe, who’s known mostly for making 3-point shots, had eight rebounds.
McCabe did live up to her reputation, though, by hitting 3-of-7 shots from 3-point range. She was the only Hawkeye to make a three as Iowa finished just 3 of 21 from behind the arc.
“I’m just trying to help my team in any way that I can and keep us going these rusn that we’ve been having,” McCabe said on the Learfield post-game radio show. “I feel like rebounding is an area I’ve gotten a lot better at and we definitely need beeter rebounding from the guard perspective.”
Iowa had a 43-29 advantage on the boards, including a 13-6 advantage on the offensive end.
