Kam Chapman Reflects in Iowa Visit
Hawkeyes Interested in Johnston FR WR
Kam Chapman still is figuring out his athletic future. He has options. The Johnston (IA) High freshman excels in football, basketball and baseball.
What he accomplished on the gridiron this season puts that sport out in front in terms of attention from colleges. He was invited to Iowa and Iowa State, visiting both in-state Power 4 schools during this season.
His Hawkeye stop happened late last month when the home team took down Michigan State in dramatic fashion.
“I really liked meeting the coaches and seeing how they teach. The environment felt positive, and the facilities were great,” Chapman said.
With a deep roster of talented veterans, Waukee felt it best for Chapman to develop on the freshman/sophomore team this fall. He obliged with 25 receptions for 673 yards and 14 touchdowns in just six games. His ninth-grade highlight video was filled with big plays produced by a tall target with athleticism and speed.
Chapman doesn’t favor one of the in-state schools over the other at this point. He’s neutral, seeing value in both places.
“I think the Hawkeye program is strong and really well respected. I didn’t grow up a big fan of one specific school, but Iowa has always stood out for how hard they play and the culture they have,” he said.
When not competing in the other sports, Chapman will work on offseason football growth in the coming months.
“I think I bring effort, athleticism, and a willingness to learn. I want to keep improving my strength, technique and overall football IQ, so I can play faster and more confident,” he said.
Like with the development of his game, Chapman has time on his side when it comes to college recruiting.
“I plan to make more visits as opportunities come up. I’m just keeping things open and learning from each place I go,” he said.
