IOWA CITY, Iowa – For Iowa men’s basketball coach Ben McCollum, adding a post player from the transfer portal is a priority this offseason, and he’s taking steps to address that need.
According to 247sports, former Saint Mary’s center Andrew McKeever, who is listed at 7-foot-3, arrived in Iowa City on Sunday to check out the men’s basketball program.
McKeever, who is from Livermore, California, averaged 8.2 points, 9.2 rebounds (27th nationally) and 1.8 assists per game as a sophomore this past season, shooting 50 percent from the field.
He has two seasons of eligibility.
McCollum certainly has momentum on his side after having led Iowa in his first season as head coach to the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time since 1987.
He also wants to add a point guard from the portal to help fill the void left by All-Big Ten point guard Bennett Stirtz, who exhausted his eligibility this past season.
Former Washington State guard Ace Glass reportedly has interest in playing for Iowa after having had a breakout season as a freshman.
A 6-3 native of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Glass averaged 16.4 points per game for Washington State this past season. He also shot 36.4 percent from 3-point range.
