PITTSBURGH — University of Iowa offensive guard Beau Stephens was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of Saturday’s NFL Draft. Stephens was the 148th player picked overall.
Stephens joins former Hawkeye teammate Mason Richman on the reigning Super Bowl champion.
The Blue Springs, Missouri, native is the 24th offensive linemen selected in the Kirk Ferentz era.
Stephens (6-foot-5, 315 pounds) was voted first-team All-America by the Associated Press, USA Today and Pro Football Focus, and second-team All-America by Sporting News and The Athletic during the 2025 season. He was also a first-team all-conference selection by Big Ten coaches.
Stephens was a key cog on Iowa’s offensive line, which won the 2025 Joe Moore Award. He started all 34 games played in 2024 and 2025, including 13 as a senior.
During his career, Stephens was a two-year starter, starting all 33 games played in 2024 and 2025. He and the Hawkeye front-five helped quarterback Mark Gronowski break school single-season records for rushing yards (545) and rushing touchdowns (16) by a quarterback.
Iowa’s offense averaged 176.7 rushing yards per game and the line surrendered just 18 total sacks during the year. Stephens and the Hawkeyes outrushed their opponents 10 times in 2025, including gaining more than 200 yards in five games.
Seattle won 14 games a season ago, winning the NFC West before winning Super Bowl LX. It marks the second straight year the Seahawks have drafted a Hawkeye offensive lineman (OT Mason Richman).
Iowa has had at least one player drafted in every NFL Draft since 1978. Stephens is the 98th player coached by Kirk Ferentz at the University of Iowa to be selected in the NFL Draft.
Stephens is the fourth Hawkeye selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, joining Logan Jones (Chicago), Gennings Dunker (Pittsburgh) and Kaden Wetjen (Pittsburgh).
