IOWA CITY, Iowa – Former University of Iowa women’s basketball standouts Caitlin Clark and Megan DiLeo (formerly Gustafson) will represent the United States and Spain, respectively, at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, which runs Sept. 4-13 in Berlin, Germany.

Clark will make her World Cup debut with the United States after making her senior tournament debut at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in March. Clark averaged 11.6 points and 6.4 assists during the event en route to earning TISSOT MVP honors.

The United States will compete in Group D alongside China, Italy and Czechia. Team USA opens the tournament against China on Friday before facing Italy on Sunday and Czechia on Monday. The United States is seeking its fifth consecutive and 12th overall World Cup gold medal.

DiLeo will make her World Cup debut with Spain after representing the country at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She averaged 18.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game during the Olympics before helping Spain qualify for this year’s World Cup in March. DiLeo led all players at the qualifying tournament with 14.6 points per game while adding 6.4 rebounds.

Spain returns to the World Cup after missing the 2022 tournament and will compete in Group A with host Germany, Mali and Japan. Spain opens against Germany on Friday, faces Mali on Saturday and concludes group play against Japan on Monday. Spain has earned three World Cup medals, most recently taking bronze in 2018.

Clark and DiLeo are two of the most decorated players in Iowa women’s basketball history. Clark, whose No. 22 is retired at Iowa, was a two-time consensus National Player of the Year and finished her Hawkeye career as the NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer with 3,951 points while helping Iowa advance to consecutive national championship games. DiLeo, whose No. 10 is also retired, was the consensus National Player of the Year in 2019 and finished her Iowa career with 2,804 points and a school-record 1,460 rebounds.
