Welcome, from Rob Howe
The most recent chapter of my professional life came to a close Sunday after almost 12 years. A new one began today, and I couldn’t be happier.
That’s not a knock on where I’ve been. Rather, it’s the excitement of where I’m headed.
With longtime colleague, Pat Harty, we’re launching AllHawkeyes.com. I really hope Hawkeye sports fans enjoy this venture and believe they will.
Combined, Pat and I have covered Iowa athletics for more than 40 continuous years. We’ve lived in Iowa City all that time, developing relationships in and around the university and its community.
While we’re attached to the school and pull for the Hawkeyes to do well, we’ll produce objective coverage. We’ll call it like we see it.
Pat’s columns are the best in the market. He fosters discussion with hard opinions on the hot topics in Hawkeye athletics. You’ll find all of those pieces right here, at AllHawkeyes.com.
I’ll also share my opinions, which have been well read through the years. They’ll be times when Pat and I will disagree, allowing for point-counter point pieces we think you’ll like.
The foundation of the site will be our ability to tell stories. We’ll do that in features, gamers, columns, analysis and most everything we do here.
Pat and I share newspaper backgrounds. We want AllHawkeyes.com to follow many of those guidelines of journalistic standards.
In addition to developing strong content you can count on being accurate and well sourced, we’re up to date with technology. We’ll be providing users with video from press conferences and games, podcasts from local businesses, video-casts and much more we know you’ll like.
Recruiting will be a main focus at AllHawkeyes.com. Again, it will objective coverage, giving our customers the clearest picture of where things stand with prospects and Iowa. Beyond keeping you informed, we’ll unveil some neat content as it pertains to recruiting.
I’m happy to announce that Brian Finley will be a big part of AllHawkeyes.com. In addition to his technological expertise that enabled him to build this site, he’s a solid journalist that’s been covering wrestling, basketball and football with me for years. It’s a labor of love for him, a Hawkeye fanatic, which is good, because we don’t pay much.
The site is smooth at launch because of Brian’s ability and innovation. Take it for spin and know that it’s still a work in progress. We plan to keep moving forward and adding as we go.
Brian designed killer player profile pages for recruits. We’ve created them for all of the 2016 prospects with Iowa offers so far and will continue to add them as we go.
I’d also like to acknowledge and thank our man behind the curtain, Bryan Doerer. He’ll handle a lot of the business operations. Without his contributions, we wouldn’t be launching AllHawkeyes.com. And that would be a shame.
I’m not much for change but this opportunity that welcomes it with open arms. I move to my new venture with ease.
Most media outlets on the current landscape are attached to big corporations. Gone are many community owned entities. They’re driven by the bottom line.
AllHawkeyes.com is local. We’re here for you, the Iowa fan. It’s going to be a blast.
