’17 RB Checking Out Iowa This Month
Prince Walker’s given name might suggest he’s expecting the easy route. His actions say something else.
The Class of 2017 running back works hard. He desires the same from those around him on the football field.
Walker measures that when he visits colleges and watches practice.
"I like it when I see a fast tempo and it’s very competitive. It’s also nice to see challenging drills," he said.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Walker is planning to watch how Iowa runs its workouts on April 23, when he visits the Big Ten program.
"I talked to the on-campus recruiter, Coach Kelvin Bell, and set it up," he said. "He also asked me general questions, like how’s my offseason going."
Walker, who preps at Montini Catholic in Lombard, IL, said Iowa began recruiting him "a couple of months ago."
"I don’t know a lot about (the Hawkeyes)," he said. "This will be my first time visiting there. An (alumnus) from my school plays there now."
Redshirt junior defensive tackle Jaleel Johnson was a four-star prospect coming out of Montini Catholic.
"I’ve met him a few times but he graduated before I came so I didn’t really get a chance to know him," Walker said.
Western Michigan and Illinois have played host to Walker on unofficial visits.
"Ive also gotten a few letters from Nebraska," he said.
Walker points to speed, agility and a knack for catching passes out of the backfield as the strengths of his game. In addition to intense practices, he focuses on a couple of other areas when he visits colleges.
"How the coaches are is important. I’m also interested in the facilities – the weight room, locker room and areas for the players to hang out," he said.
Walker reports running the 40-yard dash in 4.55 seconds. He is a member of the Montini Catholic track team.
As a sophomore, Walker rolled up 1,534 all-purpose yards, which included 1,083 (6.0 per carry) on the ground. He totaled 19 touchdowns (16 rushing).
