Maryland’s Paschal Interested in Iowa
Joshua Paschal’s relationship with Iowa is in the get-to-know-you phase. The good news for the Hawkeyes is that the talented Maryland defender desires more information and interaction with the Hawkeyes.
"I’m definitely interested. They have been recruiting me since about January. I haven’t really sat down and talked to any of their coaches, though," Paschal said.
The 6-foot-4, 255-pounder plays for Olney (MD) Our Lady of Good Counsel, a school Iowa has consistently recruited. The program regularly has sent athletes to Division I football, including Eric Grimm, who walked on the Hawkeyes as a linebacker in the Class of 2013.
"I don’t know much about them but I know Eric Grimm," said Paschal, who Iowa offered on April 30.
Paschal said he hasn’t had a chance to speak with Grimm about Iowa but hoped to this summer when the latter is home for break.
"(The Hawkeyes) had come to my school and saw our workouts. They offered me then. My coach told me the next day. It surprised me," Paschal said.
Chris White recruits that area of the country for the Hawkeyes.
The versatile Paschal said Iowa is recruiting him as a defensive end. The Big Ten school has plenty of company in its pursuit of Class of 2017 member. He reports offers from Clemson, Kentucky, Maryland and Ohio State.
"I feel like I’m handling all the attention pretty well. I’m just working hard in the weight room, on the field and in the classroom trying to get better all the time," he said.
Paschal said he’d visit Ohio State, Clemson, Virginia and Penn State this summer "for sure." He isn’t sure if he’ll be able to make it all the way out to Iowa.
"I will do my research on all of the schools who have offered or are showing interest that I’m interested in and then take some visits, most likely. I would like to see good coaching and campuses that feel like home," he said.
Paschal, who plays a hybrid outside linebacker spot at Good Counsel, received his first offer from Ohio State back in October. His older brother, TraVaughn, just finished up his football career at Kentucky.
